What is wooden armour?

Wooden armour is a type of armour that is made of wood, typically in the form of hardwood or bamboo. This type of armour was commonly used in ancient times, particularly in the Far East, where it was lightweight, affordable, and effective in providing protection against attacks.

The type of wood used for the armour would vary depending on the region and type of warfare. Hardwood like oak, ash, and maple were commonly used in Europe and the Middle East, while bamboo was commonly used in China and Japan.

The process of making wooden armour involved cutting and shaping the wood into thin strips that were then laminated together with glue and pressure. The strips were then shaped to fit the body of the wearer and could be reinforced with metal plates or leather straps.

Wooden armour was most commonly used as a form of torso protection, but some were also designed to protect the arms and legs. While wooden armour was lightweight and affordable, it had some drawbacks, such as being vulnerable to fire, water damage, and insects.
